China Beyond the Great Wall was leading Swedish newspaper Svenska Dagbladets special in-depth coverage of China ahead of the Olympic Games in 2008. It consisted of journalist and photographer Marcus Haraldsson traveling along Chinas border towards North Korea, Mongolia, Central Asia and Burma. He produced four large stories covering issues ranging from the brutal pressure against a perceived terror threat in the Central Asian borderlands over innovative toilet solutions in drought stricken Inner Mongolia and ethnic HIV/AIDS stigmatization in the tropical forests close to Burma, to South Korean tourism at the tense North Korean border.
